Balance and Love
Balance and Love
Our love is a balancing act
A balance of you and me
A balance of chasing dreams
Or so it used to be when we only balanced these things
Our Love is now give and take
Sometimes it is quiet when it used to be loud
Often it is serving and laundry and dishes and dinner and changing our toddler’s diapers and
Helping our kinder Gartner with his homework or a project
Our love is intuitive
It is walking in the room feeling the weight of something heavy and asking what’s wrong?
Sometimes our love is simple and sometimes it is complex
It is growing up together and learning how to be adults and parents and husband and wife all at
the same time
It is building a career a family and a body of work simultaneously
And sometimes love is losing your balance for a little while as you get swept up and fall and
head into a hurricane
I know you’ve watched me lose my balance in love for our children and family, in motherhood,
In pursuit of dreams, and still we found our way back, still you’re patiently waiting and
sometimes
you get lost and I know you’ll find your way back again
Maybe when your young you think you want a love that’s wild and reckless and maybe it starts
out that way
But with every passing day I know I need a steady patient love
A sustainable love that stands the test of daily life
Our love is a balancing act of finding space to be us in the midst of screams and needs and
“mommy” and “daddy”
but our love is still steady
